Dear Sugarloaf Community,
Part of the fun of a Sugarloaf Crafts Festival is discovering new artists. Many
of the talented craftspeople go "on the road" with Sugarloaf - they participate
in two, four, or even all of our shows along the East Coast. Other artists are selected
or choose to exhibit at only one show. Some of these "one-timers" may want to stay
close to home... or they know that visitors from a particular area love their work.
This Friday through Sunday, Sugarloaf returns to the Garden State Exhibit Center
in Somerset, New Jersey, and among the 275 fantastic artists are more than 20 "one-timers"
- craftspeople whose only "appearance" with Sugarloaf this Spring will be this weekend
in Somerset!
They come from around the corner (from as close as Morris and Essex counties in
New Jersey) and across the country. If you attend more than one Sugarloaf show this
season (I am always delighted that so many of our loyal patrons make a weekend event
by visiting many of our Festivals), you won't want to miss the Somerset show; these
"one-timers" offer unique and inspiring work. You'll love it!

Joseph Orsag: Documenting the juxtaposition of America's past and present, Joseph
has crafted hundreds of detailed drawings during his travels across the country
and from culling vintage photographs. As a New Jersey native, he has commemorated
the state's most prestigious universities, iconic beach scenes, vignettes of small

Evelyn Kaplan: When we break china it's often met with gasps, but when Evelyn does
it she receives "oohs" and "aahs." Skilled in the art of Pique Assiette, Evelyn
collects beautiful china, tile, and porcelain pieces and breaks them to use the
fragments in her mosaic art. Old plates get new life in her home accessories, including
clocks and pictures frames, side tables, dessert plates, platters, and mirrors.

Parbati Dasgupta: Creating art under the surname Atreyi, Parbati combines a love
of nature with metalsmithing and mokume (a mixed-metal material with a layered
"wood grain" texture) in her jewelry. She blends a variety of metals with pearls
and gemstones, and stamps her pieces with natural materials to create texture.
Her extensive selection includes mask brooches, pendants, bracelets, and earrings.
