Dear Sugarloaf Community,
I know you love handmade crafts... and beautiful fine art... and meeting interesting
people! That's why you enjoy craft shows and furnishing your homes with original
art and objects, can't wait to wear those one-of-a-kind outfits and give the unique
gifts that you saw being created.
For many of our Sugarloaf show visitors, part of the enjoyment of the craft "experience"
is sharing it -- spreading that joy to others. Obviously, I am one of those people.
I do what I do because of the joy I get from introducing people who appreciate contemporary
crafts to the talented artists who make them.
My guess is that you have friends who are just like you. They, too, probably appreciate
originality and quality, festive events, and good deals. So why not share the joy
of the Sugarloaf experience with them?
You, craft lovers, are the best ambassadors for the craft community. You know how
much fun it is to attend a festival, meet interesting artists, and purchase an item
with a story behind it. I invite you to spread the word and share the joy.
How? Through social networking.
"Social networking" is all the rage these days as we all become more familiar with
Facebook, Twitter and other online communities. But it seems to me that craft shows
perfected "social networking" long ago (for Sugarloaf, it's been 35 years!). There's
no better place to meet people who share your interest than at a craft show.
I have a few "social networking" tips that will help you spread the craft joy to
your friends and colleagues.
The most direct way that you can introduce a friend to crafts is to bring them to
a Festival. Introduce them to your favorite artist or show them who made that special
piece of jewelry (or serving piece or painting...) they have always admired. Lots
of our visitors make a show a fun group outing "with the girls" or a chance to spend
some quality time with a family member.
Another great way to let your friends know about Sugarloaf shows is right in front
of you -- this newsletter! Every week, I write to you about our artists, their fantastic
work, and the inspiration behind it. You can share all of this with your friends
by simply forwarding this newsletter on to them. It could not be easier - just
click the "forward e-mail" link at the bottom of next week's newsletter! There's
even an added bonus for doing this: you and your friends can then use the link
to the special Sugarloaf Community $6.00 discount tickets. Everyone saves $2 off
on each ticket to the next Festival. (It's just my way of saying "thank you.")
Artists love to express themselves. I have found that craft lovers do, also. So
many of us have blogs or online diaries that we use to let our friends know what
is going on in our lives. A Sugarloaf Crafts Festival is perfect for bloggers --
it's a great place to invite your friends to join you for a day of shopping and
entertainment, or a neat way to show off your latest purchase.

at your next craft show. See a really cool artist? Neat demonstration? Buy a new
piece of art? Tell people about it from your phone!
