Our spring Concentration classes are heading into their last week, but that doesn't mean anything is winding down yet. People are diligently working away (hopefully avoiding the urge to panic) on the kind of major projects that these eight-week classes enable. Sometime on Wednesday or Thursday, things might start to slow down.

Summer Open Classes
Summer enrollment is clicking along and a number of classes are filled, but there are classes in every studio that have open spaces (yes, that includes glass and clay). We just posted a list of everything that's currently open. We'll update that list weekly. Keep checking even if the class you want is currently full, as we do get cancellations. Also, after May 1, you can have your name added to a class waiting list without paying a processing fee. As always, we continue enrolling students until a class is full or until it's underway--no penalty for signing up at the last minute.

Early-summer classes with open spaces include a fascinating oil painting class taught by Matthew Lopas in which students will learn to depict a 360-degree space on a flat canvas. Interestingly, our third-session photography class (which also has open spaces) will cover the same concept but in the medium of digital photography. That class will be taught by Dan Bailey. We should be seeing some interesting depictions of Penland spaces this summer.

Excellent Video/Amazing Artist
We reported earlier that our neighbor Mark Peiser had won the North Carolina Governor's Award for his many years of work as a glass artist. We recently discovered this great 5-minute program that the Department of Cultural Resources made for the awards ceremony. You can watch it on YouTube.
