Dear Sugarloaf Community,
I know that craft lovers come to Sugarloaf shows to see the talented artists you've
come to know and love - but just as exciting are the dozens of new artists we welcome
to our festivals. When I'm browsing at a show, I'm always amazed at the innovative
techniques, ideas, and points of view that America's "next generation" of talented
craftspeople are coming up with. We know you love meeting these personable artists
and seeing their remarkable work - which is why I'm pleased to announce that artist
applications for our Spring 2011 shows are available online beginning this week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are an artist or craftsperson, Sugarloaf shows are an excellent way to introduce
your work to a world of craft lovers. More than 175,000 each year at our 13 shows!
For 35 years, our shows have helped artists to pursue their passion and make a living
doing what they love. Just ask some of our veteran artists - Sugarloaf visitors
are collectors, buyers, and lovers of fine, contemporary crafts. They fill their
homes with handmade items and wear their unique, handcrafted creations proudly.
So for a craft artist, there is no better place to meet good customers than at
a Sugarloaf Crafts Festival!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Exhibitors at Sugarloaf festivals are jury-selected based on the quality, craftsmanship,
and uniqueness of their designs. Our jury begins deliberation in late August, so
I suggest applying soon! Visit www.SugarloafCrafts.com/becomeex.html [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103530821378&s=51627&e=001soa6XW5JLRmBE4jzK0GdYobalSmnE-_mZk0-CO1hDeLWjlBB1wZuo3RCavkfK-IwwfFyxk13h7KZC7LefZUmPT-05YGDxqFlOqqnVGiglbF7oTlB8pVywM_2L5YO9K3S1efXvQObyQw=]for
more information and to submit your application.

The Handmade Marketplace Book Review

June 19th, 2010 by Wendy at AllCrafts.net

How to Sell Crafts Locally, Globally, and Online

The Handmade Marketplace:
How to Sell Crafts Locally, Globally, and Online

By Kari Chapin

Wish you could make money from your crafts? Trying to sell your crafts in shows and online but need help? Then pick up a copy of The Handmade Marketplace. There are few things I like most about this book :

  • completely up-to-date
  • very comprehensive
  • fun to read

The Handmade Marketplace was published this year and is thoroughly up to date. The author relied on a group of successful crafters, many of which you will recognize or should check out. The advice on how to set-up shop, what and where to sell is current and repesents a diversity of crafters.

Even if you have never sold your crafts before, I feel sure that you can do it after reading this book. It literally covers every topic that you may have been wondering about and some you didn’t know you needed. If you’re already selling, you will probably find some helpful info here since the book covers topics like branding, marketing, finance, online communities, blogging, advertising, podcasting, social media, craft fairs, online stores, brick and mortar stores and more.

While The Handmade Marketplace is chock-full of information, it is fun to read. There are lots of short articles and tips throughout from crafters who’ve “been there, done that” and are still doing it.
