Dear Sugarloaf Community,
Mother's Day approaching reminds me of all the sweet gifts my kids gave me when
they were younger - cards embellished with doily hearts, or pinch pots, poems, pressed
flowers, and soaps. They all meant so much to me because they were handmade. In
fact, I still have some of them - they hold such great memories.
I know I am not alone.
The thought, time, and heart that goes into something handmade holds great meaning
for all of us. That must be why we are so drawn to American crafts. We know that
each piece was made by a person (not a machine) who took the time to create something
original and beautiful. And there's often a story or memory to go along with the
gift.
This weekend, at our last show of the Spring season at the Maryland State Fairgrounds
in Timonium, you will find more than 250 artists who create handmade keepsakes and
fabulous one-of-a-kind gifts. So, for all you dads, sons and daughters: as you peruse

As visitors to our shows know, a Sugarloaf festival isn't just for mom - it's for
everyone! This weekend in Timonium there will be a variety of entertainment for
the whole family, including continual live music performances, medieval adventure
in dress-up fairytales for kids hosted by Middle Earth Studios, and live demonstrations.
Our master craftspeople will showcase their expertise in a broad range of media
including metal spinning, wheel thrown pottery, iron forging, furniture making and
wood carving.
