Dear Sugarloaf Community,
Cue the music: "Summertime... and the craft lovin' is easy!"
It may be the "off season" for Sugarloaf (our Fall season begins in early October
- we can't wait) but that doesn't mean that you, our craft-lovin' friends, are just
sitting around waiting for your next fix of fine art and handmade treasures. If
you are like me, you need the joy and fun of a craft fair throughout the year.
And if you are like me, you know that going to an arts festival while on vacation
is a special treat - you get to meet talented new artists and see wonderful new
work.

Many of my Sugarloaf friends have emailed me to ask for suggestions about fairs
and festivals they should visit while on vacation. Here are some that I am particularly
fond of - the quality of the work and the festive experiences make these fun events
for craft lovers.

June 12-13 - Allentown Art Festival, Buffalo, NY
This charming festival takes place in the Allentown Historic Preservation District,
with over 400 juried art and craft exhibitors. Buffalo is lovely in the early summer,
and this is a great showcase for some incredibly talented artists. www.allentownartfestival.com

June 17-20 - Boardwalk Art Show and Festival, Virginia Beach, VA
Enjoy 300 artists and a fun festival atmosphere at the oceanfront during Father's
Day Weekend. This is one of the oldest fine art shows on the Eastern Seaboard and
is a great reason to visit this beach destination.

July 8-11 - Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, State College, PA
It seems that everyone knows about this huge event, now in its 43rd year. It has
everything - hundreds of fantastic artists, performances, live music, great food,
children's activities and a well-deserved reputation for non-stop fun. www.arts-festival.com

July 21-24 - Ann Arbor Arts Fair, Ann Arbor, MI
Here's another well-known festival - the streets of this lively town are filled
with wonderful art and crafts, including a special section for "New Art New Artists."
It's always one of my favorite places to check out the next generation of craftspeople.

August 20-22 - Gold Coast Art Fair, Chicago IL
Chicago's Famous Grant Park is the new location for this 50 year old extravaganza.
Browse the work of more than 450 artists at one of my favorite festivals in one
of my favorite cities.

What could be better over the Labor Day weekend than enjoying the works of hundreds
of artists along the sparkling shores of the Bay, while listening to live music
from three stages and eating to your heart's content? Take the ferry from San Francisco
and avoid the remote parking shuttles.
