Dear Sugarloaf Community,
Next weekend's Sugarloaf Crafts Festival in Gaithersburg is a very special one for
us - it marks our 35th anniversary of bringing you handmade crafts from the nation's
best artists. I remember our first show well - 10,000 craft lovers came to the Montgomery
County Fairgrounds to browse and buy works created by a talented group of 200 local
artists. We were thrilled that so many people shared our passion for supporting
artists and our appreciation for handmade art.
We have the same excitement now as we did then, and looking back, we have experienced
some big changes...

Sugarloaf now hosts 13 shows throughout the Mid-Atlantic and into New England each
year, with hundreds of artists from across the country who create works in all mediums
for you to treasure. More than 180,000 visitors come to our shows each year, and
Sugarloaf is routinely ranked among the top 10 craft shows in the country. We've
even extended our community online (just think, the Internet wasn't even available
to us back in 1975!), with a growing community of more than 6,600 fans on our Facebook

While Sugarloaf has grown, our values remain the same. We still jury every artist
who applies for our shows, accepting only the most unique and highest-caliber work.
You can expect nothing less at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival in Gaithersburg April
9-11.
I can't wait to browse our first outdoor Festival of the season. The weather (fingers
crossed!) should be beautiful next weekend - in the 60s with clear blue skies, perfect
for our 35th year in Gaithersburg. The barns and buildings at the Montgomery County
Fairgrounds will be filled with more than 250 artists ready and eager to show you
their latest creations in jewelry, ceramics and pottery, photography, wood, fiber
and apparel, metal, and home accessories.

Get an "up close and personal" look at how our master craftspeople create their
works as 11 artists demonstrate their talent and techniques in wheel thrown and
raku pottery, copper spinning, woodturning, and kinetic sculpture-making. Mom and
Dad - kids love it!

Speaking of kids... the little ones can don medieval clothes and experience the
adventure of an interactive fairy tale with Middle Earth Studios. The lords and
ladies are even bringing their special Hobbit House to the Festival for kids to
explore!

To complement the beautiful weather, the Fairgrounds will be filled with continual
live music - soothing melodies from Grammy-nominated musician David Young, acoustic
versions of your favorite hits from marvelous guitar duo Stan and LeeAnne, and smooth
jazz from Mbandi.

We'll also celebrate the art of making fine foods, with more than 20 gourmet food
exhibitors at the show. Cool off with refreshing juice and blended drink mixes,
and stock up on all the sauces, seasonings, and snacks you'll need for backyard
barbecues.

Food Center to raise funds and canned food donations that will help feed the hungry
